12+ years experience in various martial arts

Ryan started regularly training in martial arts in 2011, during which time he was working in the private security industry and began pursuing martial arts for the purposes of self defence and control/restraint. To that end, Ryan wanted to gain a well rounded understanding of a range of martial arts but found that he had to train at a multitude of gyms in the south west in order to find top quality training in his various chosen disciplines, including Krav Maga, boxing, Muay Thai, MMA and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Through 2011 to 2014, Ryan persevered with his training across a number of the UK’s best martial arts gyms and clubs, training daily and accumulating a range of grades, belts, qualifications and competition wins. In 2014, having completed the KMG General Instructor Course, he decided to start his own club in Bath. The club initially focused on teaching people self defence, but Ryan always had the long-term aim of running a martial arts school where students can train across disciplines under a range of highly qualified, specialist coaches without having to pay various memberships to numerous gyms and travel miles to different schools.

Since 2014, Ryan has slowly grown the club while continuing to progress in his own training. The majority of Ryan’s training takes place under 10th Planet Swindon’s Will Stone, Krav Maga Global’s extensive training team and Matt Chapman of Mittmaster. However, Ryan also undertakes regular PT at various MMA and wrestling gyms across the UK to gain a broad skillset and has connections to a large number of professional martial artists in the area, with whom he trains on an ad hoc basis, sharing practice and development.

Ryan first started teaching in sports halls across Bath but opened his own purpose-built training facility in 2022. Since opening his own facility, Ryan has sought out some of the best coaches in the area to achieve his goal of running a well-rounded and comprehensive martial arts school. ARCH now runs three specialist adult programmes that allow students to train daily towards their individual goals. These span Self Defence (where students train in Krav Maga, Kickboxing, NoGI BJJ, NoGi Judo and Wrestling), Martial Arts (including MMA, Kickboxing, NoGi BJJ, NoGi Judo and Wrestling) and Grappling (including NoGi BJJ, NoGi Judo and Wrestling). The club also offers two kids programmes, one aimed at self defence and one aimed at competitive
BJJ.

6+ years Krav Maga experience, 20+ years sports and fitness experience

Paul has been interested in all aspects of fitness for several decades, practicing yoga for over 20 years and spending a long period road racing as a cyclist. However, about 6 years ago he became interested in learning self defence. After undertaking a lot of research, Paul found that Krav Maga seemed to be recommended for self defence by many martial artists in other styles, especially as it involves training against weapons and reality based drills.
Paul particularly liked that the drills don’t always involve the use of force, and that compliance and deescalation are also encouraged if you think that is the best solution to the problem. He found KM to be a very practical and relatively easy to learn self defence system that utilises natural reactions and acknowledges the challenges of real-world confrontation.
Paul has taught in a range of settings, including various clubs and in schools across the UK. honing a solid approach to self-defence instruction and becoming a strong coach, as evidenced by his GIC Level 2 status.
